Tutorial 05: How to stitch narrow, long plants

In this tutorial you'll learn how to stitch plants with long and narrow leaves, such as grass, narrow leaves, branches, etc. This project was worked with stem stitch, though you can other stitches such as the chain stitch, the split stitch, the back stitch, etc.

Instructions
1. Draw some grass either directly on the fabric or transfer the design with carbon paper.

2. The grass will be worked in adjoining rows of stem stitch. Take 3-strands of the darkest shade (Anchor 268) and stitch the outer right edge of each leaf. Stitch from bottom to top.

3. Pick the lightest thread (Anchor 264), take 3-strands of thread and stem stitch the left edge of each leaf. Stitch from bottom to top.

4. Take 3-strands of the medium green shade (Anchor 265) and stem stitch the second right row. Stitch from bottom to top.

5. Take 3-strands of the lightest shade (Anchor 264) and stem stitch the second left row. Stitch from bottom to top.

6. Fill the interior of the leaf with stem stitch rows. You can either select Anchor 265 or Anchor 264. Use 3-strands of thread and stitch from bottom to top.

7. With 3-strands of Anchor 265 stem stitch the narrow plant passing over the previous stitches.

8. Add more depth by adding a second stem stitch row. You can either stitch the row with Anchor 265 or with Anchor 264.

9. Pick any shade of green and stem stitch the rest of the vegetation
