Traditional Bargello pieces incorporate a series of vertical stitches. The following pattern is one of the most common Bargello, flame patterns with vertical stitches of four threads. The colors are only indicative and you can use the color scheme of your choice. You can also use more colors.
1. Bring the needle up through hole (1) and then bring the needle down through hole (2) making a vertical stitch of four threads.
2. Bargello patterns are formed when vertical stitches are offset vertically, usually by two threads (halfway up a unit of four threads). So, bring the needle up through hole (3) and then bring the needle down through hole (4).
3. Make two more stitches of 4 threads, stepping up 2 threads every one stitch.
4. Step up two threads, and make two vertical stitches, one next to the other.
11. When the first row is finished you can start a second row. Pick another color of a similar tone.
12. Stitch another row, picking a lighter color.
14. Stitch another row picking a fourth color.
15. Stitch more rows, keeping the same sequence of colors.
16. Stitch the empty areas on top and bottom.
